Me, Mollser is part of the Abbey Theatre’s Priming the Canon series which introduces classic Irish plays to a younger audience. This performance will retell The Plough and the Stars by Sean O’Casey through the eyes of its youngest character, Mollser, a strong willed and passionate young 15 year old girl coping with consumption against the backdrop of the 1913 Lock-Out and the Easter Rising. Mollser is a proud Dub struggling to thrive in the overcrowded tenements but having lost none of her curiosity and idealism. She sees the adults in her world with a sharp eye and even has a sense of the ghosts who continue to haunt the building. But how did Mollser get transported to this strange school hall and will the audience help her discover how she got there?
Presented as part of the Abbey Theatre’s Community and Education programme and is accompanied by curriculum linked resources and workshops.

After 40 sell out shows in England and Scotland, the ‘Patsy Cline 50th Anniversary Tour’ comes to Draíocht this Season. This wonderful evening of nostalgia brings the audience on a trip down memory lane to listen to the music of the great Patsy Cline. The classic songs such as ‘Crazy’ and ‘Sweet Dreams’ are timeless. The lead role in the show is played by the wonderful Sandy Kelly and this year marks the 25th Anniversary of the first Patsy Cline show that Sandy produced and starred in. It was the first and only Country Music Show to have featured in London’s West End and had an extended run playing to full houses. Special guest on the show is Gerry Guthrie, one of the most talented and relatively new ‘Country’ stars on the Irish scene. With a brilliant ‘live’ band this is a show not to be missed.

The integral role the Irish Language played in the events of the 1916 Rising will be presented by a panel of expert speakers and historians. REBEL REBEL

Dublin, 24 April 1916. Dropping their costumes in the dressing room, two of lreland’s leading actors abandon their matinee of Yeats’ Cathleen Ni Houlihan, the play which more than any other in the Abbey’s repertoire symbolised the link between the cultural revival and the Irish revolution. Instead, they take their revolvers and march to Dublin Castle. Inciting each other all the way, they fire the first shots of the rebellion changing the course of Irish history.
Created by LIR graduates Aisling O’Mara and Robbie O’Connor and Directed by Louise Lowe for Show in a Bag 2015, Tiger Dublin Fringe Festival, the critically acclaimed REBEL REBEL played to sold-out houses for the duration of the run and was nominated for the Bewley’s Little Gem Award (Most Exciting Production under 60 mins). This historical play (derived from real-life testimonies) chronicles the eventful first hour of the 1916 Easter Rebellion when two Abbey actors, Helena Molony and Sean Connolly take over Dublin Castle, leading to him being fatally shot in her arms on the roof of City Hall.

With a fantastically talented ensemble cast, set design by Maeve Clancy, original score by Michael Chang and puppets by Suse Reibeisch this will be a treat of a show for all ages. It’s a bilingual show that is jam packed with live music, physical theatre and puppetry.
A special educational website has been developed for schools to help negotiate the vast amount of information available about 1916.
